Campesino leaders from various organisations (CUC, CNOC, Waquib Aquib Kei, CLOC and Via Campesina), in a press conference in the offices of the Committee of Campesino Unity of Coatepeque, strongly denounced the murder of the lawyer and defender of street traders, Armando Donaldo Sanchez.

They explained that he was bringing a case against the municipality, for abuse of power and [prepotencia] for their attempts to force the street vendors to move to a market which, according to studies, lacks basic amenities [salubridad]. They asked the Public Prosecutor (MP) to investigate the circumstances of his death. On 5 December the street vendors had asked the local Council to establish a round of dialogue to deal with the issue of the proposed move to the new centre [of acopio].
